BSc (Hons) in Software and Technology - Tertiary Degree

This BSc (Hons) in Software and Technology is an ideal progression for learners interested in software development and technology, including those with a background in computing or related fields. Delivered in partnership between Atlantic Technological University, Galway Technical Institute, and Galway Roscommon ETB, this innovative programme provides a flexible pathway to a full honours degree. Learners complete the first year in a further education setting before progressing to years two, three, and four at ATU. The course is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to work in modern technology sectors, focusing on both software development and integrated systems involving hardware, sensors, and control technologies. Students will study core areas of software and technology, alongside professional development and project management, enabling them to work confidently in a wide range of technology-driven roles or pursue entrepreneurial opportunities. This programme combines academic learning with practical, hands-on experience and is structured as a four-year degree pathway aligned with current industry demands.

Entry Requirements:
  • Leaving Certificate- Grade O6/H7 or better in five Leaving Certificate subjects. Leaving Certificate must include English or Irish and Mathematics.  Maths at O6/H7 is acceptable to meet the minimum Maths entry requirement.  Irish at F2 is acceptable to meet the minimum language requirements.

OR

  • A Full level 5/6 QQI award (Science and Engineering programmes require a maths module or 06 in Leaving Cert Maths)

OR

  • Mature applicants – (aged 23 on or before 1st January of the course commencement year). These applicants do not have to meet the minimum entry requirements listed here and are considered on an individual basis (previous education, work experience, and demonstration of competence to undertake the programme)

OR

  • Access programme (LCA students can gain access to this programme following completion of an access programme)

OR

  • An applicant who is a minimum of 17 years of age with at least 2 years post Junior Certificate relevant experience. All applicants must demonstrate that they would qualify for the special rate of maintenance grant under the Student Grant Scheme (SUSI) and/or are in receipt of a Department of Social Protection (DSP) long-term means-tested social welfare payment and/or be from one or more of the priority groups or from any priority group identified as part of the next National Access Plan (2022-2028). Applicants must demonstrate competence to undertake the programme.
FEES:

There are no tuition fees for the duration of the education delivered by the ETB. The Free Fees Initiative  and student contribution arrangements will apply to the duration of tuition delivered by the Higher Education Institutions on the Tertiary Degree. Students will have to meet eligibility criteria of the Free Fees Initiative while undertaking the higher education part of programme, otherwise the standard student contribution arrangements will apply. GTi Registartion Fee: €175
