Social Studies and Youth Work 5M4732

This one-year Social Studies and Youth Work course is designed for those who would like to pursue a career in the youth and community sector or progress to further education in the areas of youth work or social studies. It is ideal for anyone who would enjoy working with young people in a variety of social settings, who’s values would include the empowerment of vulnerable people, equality and inclusion and respect for all young people. The learner will be provided with the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skills and competence to work under supervision in a youth work context, to progress to further or higher education and or training. This is a full-time one-year course and runs from September to May.

Progression

Graduates of this course can apply through the CAO or the Higher Education Links Scheme to pursue higher and advanced certificate or degree programmes at national Institutes of Technology, Technological Universities, and Universities. The number of places available may be limited. Applicants should verify specific linked awards and eligibility criteria with the respective Higher Education Institution.

Career Opportunities include: Future areas of employment can include a variety of local authority, charity and voluntary settings including roles such as; Youth Advice Worker, Community Development Worker, Family Support Worker, Community Education Officer, Social Worker, Youth Worker, Youth Advocate and roles in Social Justice positions. Many graduates seek direct employment within the sector.
